Ana Luísa Oliveira
Invited Assistant Professor
Her research is focused on the understanding of gene expression regulation mechanisms, particularly at the level of mRNA translation and on the impact of non-coding RNA molecules in this process. Her group is mainly interested in understanding the molecular mechanisms governing tRNA modifications, their relevance for translation control and what drives tRNA modification disruption, and consequently, translation dysfunction and its relevance in the context of disease and disease susceptibility.Currently, her lab is interested in the interplay between the oral microbiota and COPD and the crosstalk between gut microbiota and ageing. She uses large cohorts of patients and animal and cell models to tackle questions in the interface between clinics, immunology, and evolutionary biology.
