Catarina Almeida
Assistant Professor
Daniela worked on two different postdoctoral research projects, studying the regulation of hepatitis C virus replication by host cell factors (Pompeu Fabra University, Barcelona, Spain), and the importance of peroxisomes in health and disease (University of Aveiro, Portugal). Daniela currently holds a tenure-track Assistant Researcher position and is the group leader of the Virus-Host Cell Interactions Laboratory at iBiMED. She is also the the Vice-director of the PhD programme in Biomedicine, and the Coordinator of the Cell Culture Facility at iBiMED.
Daniela’s team is dedicated to the study of different aspects of the interplay between viruses and their host cells, aiming to discover novel cellular mechanisms that can be explored as targets for the development of innovative and broad-spectrum antiviral therapeutics.
