She came to the University of Aveiro as a post-doc researcher in 2000, was hired as an assistant researcher from 2008 until 2015, and as an assistant professor since 2016. She coordinates the Laboratory of Genome Medicine of the Institute for Biomedicine of UA (iBiMED), which is integrated in the National Consortium for Genome Sequencing and Analysis (GenomePT, belonging to the National Roadmap of Research Infrastructures). Ongoing genome sequencing and analysis focus on Human Populational Genomics, with yeast being used as a model organism.
